OpenVPN Connect, the “official” OpenVPN Inc. app is designed to be more user friendly for VPN users with little technical expertise. It’s also less featured than openvpn for android that is targeted at more openvpnandroid.com/improved-analytics-for-data-structuring-as-a-new-feature-of-vdr-providers/ advanced OpenVPN users.

Openvpn for Android is a free open-source client designed by Arne Schwarzbe, enables you to connect with any VPN service that supports the OpenVPN protocol. If your device doesn’t support the pre-configured VPN apps available in the Google Play Store, this is an excellent alternative. It’s relatively simple to set up. It is necessary to import the VPN profile files. (The config files are named.ovpn). These files can be downloaded from the provider’s site or by contacting live chat support.

After you’ve transferred your profile to the app, tap on the server to connect. Once connected, all Internet traffic is routed through a secure tunnel and directed to the server chosen by the app. You can check your connection’s status and details on the Status tab. The kill switch is activated by default. It will block your internet connection if the VPN tunnel drops.

The application provides a per-app VPN as and an option to be always on that automatically creates an VPN connection every time the application is launched and continues running even after your device has gone to sleep or switched networks. The latter however requires Android 7.0 or higher, and may drain your batteries more than usual.
